The intense heat brought out this dragonfly, perched atop the plants in my newly landscaped front yard.

This very tiny cardinal was having his first flying lesson near my fence. Unfortunately, his brother (or sister) attracted Emmi's attention before I saw him and he did not survive the encounter. This little guy was also hopping around in my backyard the next day (I had to keep Emmi inside all day)
